Join us for an orthopaedic surgery wet-lab in Melbourne this January. This course brings together the opportunity to repair a wide variety of commonly seen fractures using both bone plates as well as external skeletal fixation (ESF). 

Objectives  

  • To gain a strong understanding of the principles of fracture repair
  • To familiarise yourself with various reduction and fracture fixation techniques, and their pros and cons for different fracture types and patients
  • Successful application of an ESF frames (using KEFS®)  and plates (using SOP™) on a variety of long bone fractures

Course Structure   

Online pre-lab prerequisites:

To make best use of the time hands-on time available in the wet-lab and to ensure delegates have a sound foundational knowledge, online learning material including pre-recorded webinar lectures and structured interactive courses will be made available to the delegates prior to the course. 
Course materials include important basic principles material :
Mechanics & Metallurgy
Bone Healing
Fracture Assessment and Devices 
And specific understanding of the systems which will be used in the workshop:
String of Pearls - SOP™ locking plate system
KEFS® - new dynamic ESF system

Hands-on Workshop:

Wet-lab using cadavers and dry-lab using bone models.

Hands on lab time will include sawbone exercises using bone models.

Wet-lab includes application of internal and external fracture fixation techniques to femoral, tibial and radial fractures.

Bruce Nwadike

DVM DipACVS MRCVS

Dr. Bruce Nwadike is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with a special interest in orthopaedics, surgical oncology, general and reconstructive surgery. He has co-owned and operated a private referral practice in southern Maryland since 2002 after relocating from NC where he was a faculty surgeon at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He has published clinical and original research articles in peer-reviewed journals and also served for 6 years on the editorial review board for the Veterinary Surgery Journal.
